What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (sugar) found in the skin and joints. It is responsible for skin turgor (tone and "spring") and it decreases from age and sun exposure, causing the skin to sink in and look older from the lines, folds and shadows.

Juvederm is a soft hyaluronic acid that results in a very natural correction. One of the reasons that Juvederm is so safe and popular is that if anything goes wrong, it can be completely dissolved by hyaluronidase. This makes Juvederm one of the safest and most versatile fillers on the US market.

Where can Juvederm be used?

The FDA has found that Juvederm is a safe and effective treatment for facial lines and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines). Juvederm can also be injected "off label" into the lips. Juvederm is a very soft hyaluronic acid filler that looks very natural. The most common side effects of lip injections are swelling and bruising. These are temporary and will last 2-7 days. It is important to avoid aspirin and other blood thinners like fish oil for 2 weeks prior to injection to decrease the risk of bruising.

Who can get Juvederm?

Juvederm patients can be as young as their early 20's (usually for lip augmentation) or as old as their eighties (for fine lines around the mouth), but the usual the patient is between 30 and 60. When Restylane or Perlane is combined with Botox or Dysport (two FDA approved neuromodulators) the aging face can be softly and naturally reshaped without cutting or downtime.
